Trailers from iTunes

Recommended Posts

Are trailers from iTunes accessible now? I've read in one of the threads here that it's not working since iTunes kind of blocked it?

Is there any update on this? I'd like to have the trailers of upcoming movies back on my cinemavision setting.

Thanks a lot.

Yep, they're working. If you get clips instead of full trailers, install the latest development release and reset your content database, then do a content update to scrape the right content back in.

Thanks a lot, sorry but can you please walk me through in "content update"?

Should i install the latest development release, will it not affect my current set up?

Your current setup should not be affected, but it's always a good idea to take a backup. Instructions for doing that are in the development release description. To reset your database and do a content update, open the CinemaVision add-on settings. You'll find the reset database option under the Advanced menu, and the content update option under the Content menu.

Hi Ragnarok - I've actually been having issues with iTunes trailers since moving to the Dev version. Basically the scrape doesn't find any! When i dig into the code a bit there seems to be some path differences now where the base path isn't always right (there is an extra /trailers/ level). If i do manage to get a trailer to display it tends to hang - and this seems to be because by default i'm getting the 'download' / Src version i.e. .mov which download very slowly (even through a browswer) - rather than the 'stream' / SrcAlt version i.e. m4v. I'm on a 200mbs connection - so pure bandwidth isn't an issue.

Whether this is some how specific to NZ i'm not sure! But would be great to understand a bit further whether everyone else is definitely working! Any thoughts.

The debug logs don't show anything other than scraping from iTunes - 0 trailers found.

Im also having issues streaming the trailers. Im in a 300mbps fibr connection so bandwidth shouldn't be an issue.

It keeps on buffering :(

I'm pretty sure there is some throttling going on at the iTunes site (or by their CDN) for .mov versions of the files (which per the movies pages are for download use) - hence they don't stream well. For each trailer there is an alternate .m4v file designed for streaming which does not show this limitation, but they only go up to 720p in size. The iTunes trailer scraper in Cinemavision does reference this file ('SrcAlt")  field in the JSON but I can't get the scraper to actually use it.

iTunes trailers was a bigger seller for me of CinemaVision, so at the moment i'm not using it much. There has been talk of other scrapers, I think that is long term the only fix. Perhaps the dev team could look at https://www.traileraddict.com/trailerapi which provides an API for this purpose.

I'll chat with our developer about this. It might be something that we can fix by adding the download in background option or something. I'm sure it's Apple being Nazi, which I understand.

We actually have plans for a Trailer Addict scraper, and several others. I owe our pals from Germany a scraper, and I can't imagine it would be difficult to bump Trailer Addict up on the list as well.
