Help create the James Bond Quote Skins

Recommended Posts

As many of you know we are releasing the James Bond Trivia slides to the films in order one per week. When I initially started creating them I really wanted to make each quote template have its own skin but keep the text and screen cap static.

My concept was to create a unique look for each film based on the film’s credit intro scenes, which are visually unique to each film. When I tried to do this, especially on the early films I ran into issues that the visuals used were extremely difficult to translate into a good looking skin, as with From Russia with Love which has light projectors showing the credits on belly dancers body parts at close range.

So my solution was to take one of the better credit scenes, make a skin from the elements of the beginning credits and use that skin for all 23 decks. Now that the decks are being released I’m rethinking that decision and would really like to pursue my original concept even though it may call for some out of the box thinking.

CHOSEN and I brainstormed several ideas before we came up with a skin I think works pretty well. I found his input and expertise really helped in the outcome. Here is a before and after granted maybe not as visually rich but unique to the set…

This is Before (This was created from the the Casino Royale Credit Scenes)

This is After (created from stills from the file From Russia with Love.)

So first up is Goldfinger. Here is the generic template and a link to a HD version of the Credits...

Well Done!!! Only things that need to stay static are the screen shot and the Quote text. I'm hoping we get a lot of submissions so we can have a vote just before the deck release. No voting on your own works though :P

Not totally sure if you were wanting images created only from the credits themselves. Or if you wanted consistent logo placement. But here's a quickie stab at Goldfinger.

Great job polargeek.  Thanks so much for getting this started.

Yeah your feeling the pain of my dilemma when I tried to execute my concept on these earlier films.

The Roger Moore and later films are a lot more friendly to the concept. With From Russia with Love we abandoned the idea all together and took images from the actual film. I will try both and see what everyone thinks over the weekend.

I added a Goldfinger Cuts.zip file to the first post. The file has several Adobe files that I rendered from the credits. This should save everyone some time so we can just slap them on the template and see what works best.

I'll pick this back up tomorrow night and see what i can come up with, and see what all of you Photoshop gurus can put together.

Yeah I tried that as well here's what mine looked like.Concept_4.thumb.jpg.2f49592aec97f820c4a6

Some public opinion would go a long way otherwise we'll have to guess. I'm sure what we think looks good isn't always shared universally.

Very nice I like the fresh design design concepts. It's going to make it hard choosing from all these great ideas. We may have to use more than one. Maybe mix it up if everyone thinks that makes sense.

yeah they are. I really like my Fact template but these are good enough to replace that for this set as well I think. Great job every one now I guess we need a vote. Should we just tick the green reputation arrow on our favorite and we'll use the two front runners for the Facts & Quote skins?

OK Guess I gotta vote I'm going to chat though.

I vote for Chosen's Gold & Grey Template for Facts

Polargeek's template with the woman with her foot through the Q for quotes.

I'm not going to vote for myself but I second the first part of your choice.

Congrats to Polargeek and Chose for winning the competition for the Goldfinger skins. The Quote and Fact slides are available in the Fusion download section for all to enjoy.

Next up is Thunderball. I think this one will be a bit less challenging, lots for shadowed figures swimming under water. Below is the template and a link to an HD video of the credits scene. I should have some cut outs posted soon for everyone to play with. I'll give everyone until September 17th to enter their submission and cast their votes. Then the winners skin will appear in the Thunderball deck that will become available for download September 19th...

The 22a file is the original Quotes template, The Thunderball Alpha is a series of cut outs I put together from the cut scene for everyone to work with.

Very nice, I'm just about to put up all the cuts. Oh and I figured out if you the the Bond 50 Blu-rays it has the Begining credits sequence without and font buried in the stream folder. For this film the file is named 00032.m2ts

Hmm I have the ones from England so I'll have to check if they're the same

My vote is for polargeek's.  My initial idea was pretty close to that, but when I saw what he did I knew that I couldn't take it in that direction any further or better.

Here's my take at it, taking my prior Goldfinger concept in a different direction.

Thunderball-quote.thumb.jpg.91b69f57c14b

I like this one for multiple reasons.  One is that the lighter scheme adds variety to the somewhat darker versions.

And one more just with a different background

Thunderball_Quote_4.thumb.jpg.5dea6c35f2

This would be my second place.  The silhouettes are not as bold and crisp which works better for the underwater look and the shimmer of the water is not overpowering, which made it hard to read for someone with my color blindness.

Wll thanks Japses! and I just noticed the "i" in Chosen's design is Bond with a jetpack, Ha ha that's great!

My second would have to be Polargeek's Jet-pack Silhouette. We could do a Fact replacement on this one as well. Maybe a combination of Polargeeks Jet pack Silhouette and my underwater scheme. I do have to say though I really don't like the color of my "Film Quotes" logo.  We'll see how many more votes come in before we make the final decision.

Congrats to Polargeek and Chosen for winning the Quote & Fact replacement competition again, and even I got a vote, so we all won. Chosen's template was used for the Quotes and a integration of Polargeek's design and my own were merged for the Fact slide. The deck is now available in the the Fusion downloads. Here is how the finals turned out...

On to You only Live Twice. This one will be another tough one, it's Japan themed credit scene with a lot of composite cinematography. Below is what i did for the LeitMotif slide set it may spark a few ideas...

I'll give everyone until September 24th to enter their submission and cast their votes. Then we'll integrate all the participants skins in the You only Live Twice deck that will become available for download September 26th...

Below is the YOLT Cuts.psd file, where I have cut several images out of their backgrounds for people to play around with. Everyone's a winner so use your imagination create a skin and one way or another we'll make sure your design is integrated into the final deck.

And finally the the YOLT_1_a.psd file which is the Quotes Template for the deck. Same rules apply just can't move the "Film Quotes" title or the Screenshot so we have consistency between all the decks quote layouts.

Don't be shy guys and gals, even if your a beginner with Phtoshop we can all help each other out, even a simple design can spark the fire for a great idea we can all work together on to make happen on screen in a beautiful way.

Here are 2 designs.  The first is a continuation of what I started with Goldfinger.

Two really unique, and really neat designs thanks Matt. I'll wait until tomorrow for any more submissions and then we can all vote. We'll probably be voting on the top two one for quotes the other for facts

Time to vote for the YOLT winners this week. I vote Polargeek's design for Facts and Matt's white design for Quotes as it restricts the text area a bit and facts tends to be pretty windy.

Once again I won't vote for myself but as I said above the white one is my favourite of the 2
