Is CinemaVision still being developed?

There doesn't seem to have been any definitive answer given to this. I read that the developer was dealing with some personal issues, but there has never been any update. Kodi 18.1 is out and the last release works, but has some issues.

Can anyone let us know the status? CinemaVision is the best tool of it's kind - I'd be very sad to see it let go.

Agreed.  I'm wondering how many people are part of the development "team".  We have several talented people who create content for CV in regards to bumpers, trivia slides, etc. but how many have direct contact with the developer other than Ragnarok?  We've got a great community going on here with members helping each other out, but if CV doesn't work with the latest version of Kodi, then it's going to become deprecated and interest is naturally going to wane.  That would be a shame as I know a lot of work has gone into CV and those of use who use it really enjoy that, "At home theater experience".

I'm not trying to be apathetic to Rags' situation and hope those medical issues haven't taken a turn for the worse.  I wish he or whomever afflicted the speediest recovery.

Exactly - no disrespect whatsoever towards the personal issues - Life, family, health, etc. are more important - but in the same way that Ragnarok took Cinema Experience over and turned it into CinemaVision - perhaps if he's no longer interested in development, someone could take CinemaVision over.

At any rate - just some sort of update would be helpful to those of us that invested in this project, either financially or with their time creating the wonderful content. I'd really hate to have to go back to 17.6 if it's not necessary, just because there are some great features in the new version - plus it seems to run like lighting compared to the old one. It's just that CinemaVision takes a typical home cinema to an elevated level that I'd like to hold on to if at all possible.

Would love to have answer on this as well.  100% understand if life gets in the way.  It only takes 30 seconds for someone to provide some kind of update.  It's not right for those who showed support by buying a subscription or donated.   Hope everything is all right with the developer and we continue to get support for this great addon.

Part of my reasoning for reaching out (beyond my own selfish reason of wanting the plugin to work again) is that maybe the developers/partners think that interest has waned because of the lack of interaction and updates on the site and in the Kodi forums. I just wanted to reassure, if anyone is listening, that we are all still very interested.

Speaking for myself, I know that they sold "lifetime" memberships, but I'd be willing to pay another upgrade fee just to get it functioning with the latest Kodi.

Otherwise, I guess I'll back down to Kodi 17.6 - I just don't know if that's possible, once the database has been upgraded. I've got the sneaking suspicion that I'd have to kind of start over and rescan everything from scratch - so I'm just hoping it doesn't come to that.

If ANYone who monitors these boards have any knowledge of the status - please let us know. Thanks again...

Sadly this seems to be a trend as of late with a lot of add-on devs (I.E. PsudoTv Live). We the community do love our plugins and a lot of us (me included) even pay out money to support these wonderful developers. It's sad that so many are going silent especially around the time a new major version of Kodi came out. It can be very frustrating for us. We don't mean to become pushy but we see every day addons and plugins that we love disappearing and we get a bit scared that the ones that we depend on for our systems to look and run the way we want will disappear also. I thought there was more than one dev working on the content but I have also noticed a drop in content being added.

CV is Ragnarok's baby.  There are other people that help support the site or content, but Ragnarok is the person in charge of the development.  We just play a role in support.

 I Wish I could say that we'll have a new version out soon.  There are people that support CV in various ways, even if life has gotten in the way.

Matt -- I don't think anyone is even looking for "soon" - I think folks are asking is there ever going to be an update to work with Kodi 18+ or has this project been abandoned like Cinema Experience once was. I'll hang on and keep checking in if someone could simply say "Yeah, Ragnarok is dealing with a lot of things, but he's told me that he WILL get back to this once things clear up."

Up to now, it just seems like it's been left behind and that was all I was trying to get clarification on with my original post.

Yip.  Like everyone else here I don't use Kodi, I use CinemaVision.  I'd always hoped Ragnarok would port CinemaVision to Plex and I could have one shared system across all my friends servers. The fact that CinemaVision doesn't work with 18.1 isn't just unfortunate, it means my entire cinema experience is gone.  I don't want a TV experience in my home theatre, I want CinemaVision!

I'm happy to wait months and months for an update, I'd just like to know if an update is possible, all things considered.

Love to Ragnarok in the meantime. If this project is over, it was a blast. I've never enjoyed movies at home so much.

Hopefully his personal issues get resolved and he and everyone involved are okay. I will say this though timing is unfortunate because Kodi v18.1 is one of the best releases yet for hardware like the nVidia shield. So I do hope things get better or he branches out and lets a few other developers work on the main code but ultimately in the end I hope that he is alright.

I think most people would be very happy if any further development, added features and such were put on hold but the CV itself in it's current form would get the required bump to continue working with the latest versions of Kodi.

 

This and 1 other addon that is seemingly simple yet cause a huge silly argument with "Team Kodi" are the reasons I've not upgraded.

So here's a potentially interesting update - was surfing around seeing if there was any kind of alternative to CinemaVision and came across this recent Reddit posting from a user named "Team-Kodi" who claims that although the original developer is busy they are seeking a new developer. I dunno.  I'm having problems with KODI now too.  It just "stops" on my Nvidia Shield like someone pressed stop, just since the 18.4 update and/or the latest NVidia Shield update.  So it's not just Cinemavision that's having issues.  But there's no signs of fixes anywhere.  I'm starting to think I may have to go back to watching movies with the discs if this keeps up.  I have an older version of KODI on my Zidoo X9S.  I'm thinking it might still work (don't know if Cinemavision will work on a Zidoo or not, but I don't see why not).

There's a newer version than that I linked several messages up.  It doesn't work beyond 18.1.  It'll start to play a video (as in a trailer or whatever on your timeline) and may or may not show one, but then it just  goes black.  If there's a newer version than 1.1.1a11, I'd like to know about it.

There was some confusion because version 1.1.1a10 was posted by a contributer in the forums, and version 1.1.1a11 was posted by the original developer and does not have the fixes that are in 1.1.1a10. I am using 1.1.1a10 with Kodi 18.4 on an NVIDIA Shield, and it is working well.

Sorry for not getting back sooner (had some family visit and forgot about it).  I tested it with my FireTV 4K running Kodi 18.4 Leia and it now appears to work fine. 

 

Well, it has one issue, but that's the theme's fault, namely XonFluence needs editing to get rid of the "working" dialogs like I did for the old Confluence.  Sadly, I forget the line offhand I need to change in it.  It's a shame most theme developers can't be bothered to add one line in their themes to make it work properly.  But then this one hasn't been updated for the new Global Search changes either so it doesn't look so good there, but it's such a nice version of Confluence I hate to abandon it (can't seem to stand most KODI themes as they are too complex and slow the machine down and/or don't show things I want them to show. Xonfluence is Confluence on steroids, where I can add custom backgrounds and all kinds of things but it still is fast and supports the views i like).
