Question

Is Kodi 19 going to be supported, since they're moving to Python 3, or are we going to have to stick with 18?  I know that it's going into beta soon, if not already...anybody tried using CV with it yet?

What needs to be done to get this plugin updated? and is possible to get this on Plex as well?

They were always indicating that you'd have to make the request of Plex to support it, but considering the development has been dead for a while now, I don't see that happening unless we get a developer to pick up the pieces and start rolling with it again.

Yea I hope we can find another developer soon. I am willing to contribute as far as funds. I really like this addon for my theater room. Many bugs tho that need to be sorted out especially since 19 is about to come out.

Hi!

Any news to this topic, now that 19.0 is out? Has anybody already tried?

I'm not a developer but I do dabble and I was able to install Kodi 19 (Matrix) stable in an ubuntu virtual machine and change some things to see Cinemavision boot. I was using the 1.1.1 version that I have running on my Kodi 18.0 machines as the base since I don't have any with the newer 1.1.1a10-a12. By changing some of the requirements, updating import paths, and changing some lines regarding decode("utf-8"), and updating the included_packages\hachoir to 3.1.3, it loaded and I was able to play a basic sequence that came with Cinemavision. It is far from being a successful upgrade and I don't know what else I broke getting it to run but there is hope! and it doesn't seem that impossible! I did this during a weekend so the real developers should be able to get something together quicker since they already understand the intricacies of their own coding and development better than I do!

Keeping my fingers crossed they can get us compatibility ported to 19 soon.  The Shield in my theater dropped 19 on me before I realized it, so I'm stuck for now.  Not to mention it finally broke my favorite, no longer developed, skin that I've been nursing along for a few years...

Admins are working 9n it they have been working on it since they heard python 3 but I think there's only 2 of them.. I would stick with 18 till fixed ..Cinemavision isn't the only thing down with 19 half my add-ons are down because python 3 I can't even check the weather with 19

Yeah, this is one of those times where going into "cruise control" bit me.  When I was using an ODroid as my Kodi device, I stayed pretty current on both the OS and Kodi, keeping things updated on my own and so forth.  Then I retired the ODroid and went to a Shield as the primary device, and when I did kind of stopped keeping big tabs on development.  I let Android handle auto updates, and didn't give it a thought.  I didn't even know the next Kodi was dropping, let alone all the stuff about Python 3, or I would have turned off auto updating for the app and held back.  Instead, went to power up the theater one night, saw the Kodi Matrix boot screen, then the slew of invalid addon messages.  So now I get to wait, or get impatient enough to find a version of Kodi 18 to sideload, but I'm really hoping to avoid that route.  :)

Any updates from our fearless leaders?  Even just to know they're still plowing through would provide a little hope.  :)

No fearless leader here but yes, we are still plowing through :D
It's taking a while but we'll get there.

I suggest everyone, if they can, stay away from 19 for now. It will break many other addons, not just CV.

@rdsp I think it is not fair to say that Kodi is "BREAKING" any Add-ons. The Add-ons still fuction like they did before. But if the Platform that the Add-ond run on (=Kodi) changes then is is simply a matter of fact that the output of the Add-ons is affected as well.

It was not Team Kodi´s decission, that Python2 is not supported anymore and nobody is forced to upgrade to Matrix before your most beloved Add-ons are adjusted.

I think you're splitting hairs here and getting stuck on semantics.  Nobody is blaming the Kodi team for upgrading to Python3.

I mention "for now" because of the add-ons that haven't been updated and will not work properly in Kodi 19. No blames assigned here :)

Here are some updates:

We have completely translated CV to Python3 including some dependencies that we couldn't find updated anywhere. That took longer than expected.
At this point, it's still not working because of changes to other scripts CV uses. We are trying the updated versions and have to change the code to work nicely with these.

Youtube trailers won't work because the script hasn't been maintained or updated for a long time.

I will keep this thread updated as soon as I have any more news.

Hi, I wondered if 3 months on there is any update since your last post? I think reading previous comments, it's not that users necessarily expect an "it's working now" just some communication on progress as when months pass it feels like it's been abandoned when I'm sure that isn't the case.

Many thanks in advance.

It hasn't been abandoned.  It is just a very slow process that people are working on in their free time.

Our developer, @DexDeadly, continues to do an amazing job updating CinemaVision to 19.  He has fixed the issues with the trivia module, which you can see at the link below.

I'll do another post next weekend that highlights what we get accomplished next week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Since I’ve updated from 19.2 to 19.3 I've the problem that Trailer, Audio and Video Bumber are played with a really low Volume,

Before (19.2) it has been played with the correctly volume

I just made a post about something very similar except mine would play at 100% like my music trivia and video bumpers but I have my settings at at 75% so it completely ignores my settings

Has there been any recent updates to CinemaVision or is it completely dead?

CinemaVision does appear to be dead.

Luckily Matt, one of the admins here, has started a new add-on that does much of the same things.

It is very early days but the first beta version is out and I have done a bit of testing with it. It seems to work well. I believe it is intended to be used with Kodi 20 as well.
