About Dolby Digital

Unlike earlier forms of surround sound, Dolby Digital 5.1-channel audio is a discrete multichannel surround sound system. With six discrete channels, sounds can be placed very precisely, for improved dialogue clarity, imaging, spaciousness, and realism. You also get a dedicated subwoofer channel, for plenty of deep bass.

This format has several different names:

• Dolby Digital
• DD (an abbreviation for Dolby Digital, often combined with channel count; for instance, DD 2.0, DD 5.1)
• AC-3 (Audio Codec 3, Advanced Codec 3, Acoustic Coder 3.
• ATSC A/52 (the name of the standard)

Hi there.

 

Quick question: Is the file Dolby_-_Silent.mp4 supposed to have no sound at all or an awesome soundtrack? Cause all i'm able to hear is one looooong beep.

I have had that happen.  For example, if I pipe through my TV (instead of Receiver) for testing and config (I am usually watching or listening to something else on the Receiver at the time).  When I test a sequence and it gets to the audio bumper I get a loooooong buzz.  I assume it is because the TV cannot transcode the DTS format (or whatever it is).  Check your settings on KODI as well as your receiver to make sure they are compatible.  I have DTS and Dolby set to ON in KODI with passthrough.  My receiver can handle signal from there and sounds great
