Start Movies at Specific Time

Recommended Posts

I was board this morning and was looking at the thread for the Movie Poster program for streaming movie poster and thought that it might be neat if you have a way to run the CinemaVision add on at a specific time.  Lets say wanted to watch a movie at 8 pm, with this you could tell Kodi to play the movie at 8 that and then the sequence you pre-setup would start at 8.  The other half of what I was thinking was to see if to would be possible to have CinemaVision work with the programs that meyer64 has made (MoviePoster and TicketMaker).  What I was thinking was that when you make a ticket the time you put on the ticket would be sent to CinemaVision to play the movie at that time and it would be sent to MoviePoster via Kodi to advertise the movie(s) at the times you want.

Here is the link to meyer64's thread on AVSFourms http://www.avsforum.com/forum/32-theater-room-items-accessories/1439406-movieposter-virtual-movie-poster-display-software.html

We plan to add a scheduling feature to our CinemaVision Service add-on. You'll be able to create and manipulate schedules right from the CinemaVision GUI. The schedules would allow you to specify a date, time, sequence and feature presentation (ideally either specifically, or a random feature by rating and genre). We still have to flesh the idea out, but it's on the list!

We've been talking with Brent for a while now, and have a bunch of ideas for how we can integrate CinemaVision with all of his programs. You actually cited an example that he and I have spoken about. Another would be MoviePoster displaying sequence data during your preshow on the poster, like it does the Feature Presentation now. We think that part is ready from our end. I'll ping him today about it. There are some things we need to set up on our end to facilitate other tie-ins, though. We actually host his website for him. He's great people.

Any update on integration with Movie poster ? I also want to plan a party where I can set up a set of movies to play at certain times and have it show up is the list of showtimes and then have it automatically start movies we some sequence of trailers, etc at the show times.

I'll reach out to Brent. I know he's been super busy so I've been leaving him alone. I'll update here once I talk to him. As far as the scheduler, that is going to be a feature of the CinemaVision Service Add-on when it's released. Our developer got snagged for some super secret hush hush Kodi projects, so we have to wait for a bit before we can begin our second round of development. We are on the schedule as soon as his other jobs are done, though. The CinemaVision Service Add-on will likely be one of the first things we begin to work on, as it rounds out the feature set of the whole suite.

Any ETA on this feature would also like to host a party where the movie poster app is showing movie times and then cinemavision is running the preshows and shows at the scheduled times. Would be really aweseome ! :-)

I was just searching for something similar.  I wanted to start a movie on my Kodi box preceded by a Cinema Vision sequence.  I was looking for REST/JSON commands that I could add to my home automation software, but if integrated with CV, that would work just as well.  Is this still in the roadmap?  Thanks

No ETA just yet, as this feature is going to require us to write a new helper add-on, the CinemaVision Service Add-on. In the second round of development so far, our developer has been focusing on low-hanging fruit and additional functionality for trailers. I'll ask him about switching gears to get a test version of the new add-on working.

It's definitely on the roadmap!

Is there any sort of road map showing when you guys might get to this feature ?

Thanks.

No, but that's probably not a bad idea for something to add to the site. I'm sure all of you guys would like some visibility. :) I'll look into ways to do that. What I can tell you is the CinemaVision Service Add-on is right around the corner. We're putting the finishing touches on conditional sequences and then we'll be banging out the basic scheduling functionality of the service add-on.

Hello Everyone, I just started using CinemaVision a few days ago, and this is precisely what I have been trying to figure out. It would be nice to be able to do this from within Kodi as well as via the API.

The API call could either start immediately by taking in the movieid, or it could be scheduled by also taking in a date and time. The reason for this is that I have a website where people can vote on what movie they want to watch, then a script runs to determine the winner and update the site. It would be cool if the scipt could also start playback by scheduling a cron job, or if it could schedule the movie for a particular date and time.

OtisPresley - This is also exactly what I am trying to do.  I just started working on a local webserver, but will surely be at a loss on how to configure the rest.  I would like to feature 3 movies and have friends vote on the one that they would like to see.  Would you mind sharing some ideas/technologies used on how you built yours?  Also wouldn't mind taking a look to see what it looks like although you may not want to share for everyone to vote.   I would be satisfied just to have a way to schedule the day and start time of a movie in Kodi, but this integration seems interesting as well.

Hi any updates on the cinemavision service add-on?

It's next on the list! We've been working on bug fixes, but it looks like we're mostly finished with that.

That's a great idea for Kodi in general! You might try chatting up the folks behind Chorus 2 to see if you can get any ideas for how to make that webpage.

Scheduling the start of your Sequence is something we will be adding with the CinemaVision Service Add-on. I'll talk to our developer about adding in calls that will allow you guys to pass a schedule to the Add-on via the Kodi API and see if that's possible.

@BernieBl I host my own web server that is running on an Ubuntu 16.04 VM where I also run Emby, which has CIFS mounts to the Hyper-V host where I run StableBit DrivePool for my file storage. For the web site, I downloaded a free HTML5 template and modified it and added PHP code to display 10 random movies from my collection for voting. It is set up in cron to be generated each week, unless a certain variable is set to false.

In order to vote, you must RSVP and it tracks how many seats are left and allows one vote per RSVP. The email addresses and votes are just stored in plain text files on the server and get deleted each time the script runs. Each movie in the list is linked to a search for the title on TheMovieDB.com. There is a BASH script I wrote that is what cron runs. It actually selects the movies and generates the web page. Another script runs in cron the day before the movie to determine the winner and update the page.

Here is the link if you want to take a look.
