3D ratings bumpers not detected by Kodi.

Question

I downloaded some of the ratings packs from here and have them playing before a movie. The 2D ones work fine out of the box, but the 3D ones, identified with "(3DSBS)" in the filename are not detected by Kodi as 3D videos and are therefore not displayed correctly.

I suspect it is because of the "(3DSBS)" not being detected by Kodi's regex as described here.

Unfortunately if I rename the files to something that Kodi recognises, they are no longer picked up by CV. The only other option at the moment is for me to define my own regex in Kodi's advancedsettings.xml, which is too difficult for me.

Could anyone help?

I have two sequences set up, a 2D and a 3D one. The 2D one has always worked fine, but I couldn't get the 3D ratings bumpers to show in 3D. The first thing I tried was to use a Kodi friendly 3d tag (3D.SBS), but when I did that, CV would not show the bumper.

i.e:

PG (3DSBS) displays, but not as 3D

PG.3D.SBS doesn't display, but does work in Kodi via file manager.

PG ( 3D SBS ) displays correctly.

Yeah, so did we! We'll be changing the naming convention for our videos so they just work natively with Kodi. Kodi expects that whatever tag you choose to use from the table above is going to be wrapped in spaces, periods, hyphens or underscores. For example, using the 3d and sbs tags and removing the brackets:

  • [ 3D SBS ]
  • [.3D SBS.]
  • [-3D SBS-]
  • [_3D SBS_]

I may need to rename the 3D content. Try changing the name to "<filename> (3D SBS).<ext>" and if that doesn't work, remove the parentheses. Let me know what works and I'll test on my end and change the names for the downloads if needed. Here is a table of the 3D tags that Kodi allows.

3D Stereocopic Side-by-side Stereoscopic Top-and-bottom
3d sbs tab
  SBS TAB
.3D. .SBS. .TAB.
3D. .HSBS. .HTAB.
.3D .sbs. .tab.
.3D- -SBS -TAB
-3d- -hsbs- -htab-
_3d_ _sbs_ _tab_
  HSBS_ HTAB_
Source

Let me know how it goes!

Just confirmed with our developer how the tagging for 3D works. Change (3DSBS) to ( 3D SBS ) and tagging will work just fine. I'll change the file names.

OK, I renamed them like you said and it does indeed work. I'm not a big fan of "  ( 3D SBS )  " though to tell you the truth, It's like no tag I've ever seen before. Couldn't it be changed to something more standard?

The trouble is, Kodi expects that the 3D tag (in any form) be flanked on both sides by either a space, period, hyphen or underscore. I plan to change our naming convention to <movie_name> 3D SBS HD 1080p.<ext>. It really is up to you where you put it in the name, and what tags you use. I doubt Team Kodi will change the way tagging works, though.
