I can't play any trailers at all!!!

Question

No matter what I do, I just can't seem to play any of the steaming trailers at all! I have reset all the watched statuses, I have selected all trailer scrapers, and I have even set the trailer limits (genres, ratings) as high as possible! Am I doing something wrong?! THIS COULD BE A DEALBREAKER FOR THIS ADDON IF I DON'T GET SOME HELP!!!!!!!!!!

That's alright. In the future, try to be a bit more constructive and ask for help instead of demanding it. It's pretty clear that we do everything we can to solve the issues that people are having as quickly as possible. :)

hi there,

I installed the CinemaVision Addon today at version 1.0.11 and the trailers also don't work. Which version do I have to use to make it work?

Grab this version:

And let me know how it goes. It's not a stable release, in that it's not yet pushed to the Kodi repository, but it should fix that issue.

NEVER MIND NEVER MIND! When I transferred everything to a laptop, NOW IT JUST SKIPS RIGHT OVER THE TRAILERS! HOW DO I DO THIS!!?!!!!?

EDIT: Sorry for going berserk. I was trying to test it on my laptop connected to a TV, but it just didn't work until I just had to update content (I think and hope because my internet is down for the night as of this writing). What was I thinking?! I am such a bad person!

There's never a need to freak out. If you have a question, just ask it and we'll try to help. If you encounter a problem, articulate that problem and we'll try to help.

Never mind never mind never mind! When my internet went back up, even when I updated the content, it still didn't work!!!

The CV trailers did work, but nothing else did! Is iTunes down forever?!?!?

This is coming from my laptop. After a content update, it still worked on my other computer! Maybe it has something to do with specs?

I get this on the log file when updating content:

08:12:52 T:4728  NOTICE: [- CinemaVision -] (API): Getting trailers from iTunes
08:12:53 T:4728  NOTICE: [- CinemaVision -] (API):  - Received 0 trailers
08:12:53 T:4728  NOTICE: [- CinemaVision -] (API):  - No new iTunes trailers added to database

08:12:53 T:4728  NOTICE: [- CinemaVision -] (API): Getting trailers from KodiDB
08:12:53 T:4728   DEBUG: CVideoDatabase::RunQuery took 1 ms for 0 items query: select * from movie_view
08:12:53 T:4728  NOTICE: [- CinemaVision -] (API):  - Received 0 trailers
08:12:53 T:4728  NOTICE: [- CinemaVision -] (API):  - No new KodiDB trailers added to database

It actually recognizes Stereoscopynews.com trailers, but I don't even want that!

Hello, as I had mentioned last night in the chat.  If you could please screenshot your settings as I believe something is being missed and seeing your settings could help us get this resolved.  Another thought I had was that you had mentioned last night your device could not screenshot due to parental permissions where you have no internet.  Is there any other permissions or filtering in place?  This could possibly be blocking getting the information from itunes or youtube where the plugin grabs the trailers.

That was not it. My internet was up when it happens. I was trying to test it, but it broke and then I screamed about it on the forum just before my internet went down for the night.

Well that's likely the issue here. It's not scraping in iTunes trailers (or likely anything content related) because the database is locked by something. Is this on an Android device? is it using its own database or is it connected to a network share or something similar that another instance is also using? It could be either a permissions issue, or another application/instance has the CV database locked which disallows any write actions to the database.

I know I am not using an Android device, but I don't know if this is its own database or connected to a shared network. Either way, how can I unlock the database?

What's the device you're using? I'm not sure what could be locking the database, but I know it's not CinemaVision doing the locking. I put a word in to our developer to take a look and give me his take on the error as well. Knowing what kind of device, what version of Kodi, and what version of CinemaVision would help. Did you walk through all of those steps I gave you before getting the partial log you posted? A full log would give us all of the information we need.

I am using an Acer Aspire laptop from 2011 on Windows 10, I am on the latest stable version of Kodi, and I am using the developmental release of CV. By the way, I would have thought I would have to give you the full log, but I don't know how to upload local files to posts, so here is the full log:

Did you follow the steps to reset the database? Was this copied from another install to this one, and if so, are the paths identical on both machines? If not, did you go through and fix the paths to the content directory and any other content you may have hardcoded in your Sequence? Were you using or updating CinemaVision while you were copying the files over? If so, the database may be locked to the user on your other computer, in which case you'll have to recreate it all again.

Your conclusion sounds similar, but exactly what I did was exported the whole sequence from my other computer in which the thing worked onto a flash drive, transferred all of my CV content to that flash drive and then when I got it all from my flash drive onto my laptop, I imported the sequence and changed directories' paths to match my new CV folder's directory.

And also, I did not update CinemaVision.

UPDATE: I just managed to completely uninstall and reinstall Kodi as well as CinemaVision, and after a few alterations in the default sequence and some tweaking in the settings, I can finally get the trailers to play!

Here's what's going to happen now. I'm going to give you one more chance to be civil and not act like a petulant child on my forums. I think we've proven as a whole that we do our very best to help people and go out of our way to get CinemaVision working for anyone who needs help, and make the whole process easier. There's not any other add-on that I've seen that has the support we provide, as well as the guides and pre-configured content to help people integrate other technologies with very little headache. While I appreciate that you finally (albeit incorrectly) uploaded a full debug log for us to review, I'm not going to allow you to take that attitude, and call something that we've worked very hard on a "piece of shit". If this behavior continues, you will be permanently banned, and will receive no help from us either here or on the Kodi forum. You tried to do the same thing in the Cinema Experience thread, and it's unacceptable. These forums were not created for people to flame and air their frustrations. These forums were created to give us an avenue to help people using CinemaVision who articulate their problems and requests in a kind and helpful manner, so that we can improve CinemaVision as a whole for everyone who wants to use it.

Now that's out of the way... I told you earlier that I reached out to our developer who is currently very busy with other projects he's contracted to do and his personal life. I have not talked to him, but anticipate that I will tomorrow. When I talk to him I'll get some clarification on what could be causing your database to lock, and I'll report back. We have about 750,000 users who currently use CinemaVision with absolutely no issue, and this particular database locking issue is a new one. We've not seen it before. It's possible you found a bug, and it's possible that it's something happening with your installation. We just don't know yet. Your job right now is to be patient, and when I talk to our developer tomorrow, I'll post here with what could be causing the locking issue and we'll try to figure it out together. I hope that you allow that to happen and stay your temper, and I hope that I've been clear.

In the future, when I ask you to post a log, please make sure you follow the instructions in the guide I provided and upload the log to the web and provide a link, or drag and drop the log files onto the giant paperclip at the bottom of the editor to attach the files directly.

I feel completely shattered and sad about my attitude. It just makes me a bad person, and if you do ban me from the forum, I will seriously consider killing myself... :(

That's the same thing you pulled on the Kodi forum. That's overly dramatic, and you need to stop. Just fix the attitude and help us help you fix the problem you're having.

If Ragnarok didn't say he was giving you one more chance I would pull out my own mighty banhammer.  Take a xanax and before you post another thing why don't you take 30 minutes to cool off and see if that's really what you want to say.

@avidsonicfan1991, hope this finds you well. I was finally able to corner our developer and have him look over your log and discuss it with me. We can see in the log that your database is locked for some reason, which would prevent CinemaVision from adding and removing content during a content update.

22:34:42 T:6308   ERROR: EXCEPTION Thrown (PythonToCppException) : -->Python callback/script returned the following error<--
                                             - NOTE: IGNORING THIS CAN LEAD TO MEMORY LEAKS!
                                            Error Type: <class 'peewee.peewee.OperationalError'>
                                            Error Contents: database is locked

Now, generally this issue can be fixed pretty simply by resetting the database from the CinemaVision settings. Since you said you moved this install from another machine, we think it's possible that the database was still locked to the user on the source machine. The CinemaVision database is stored in your userdata\script.cinemavision directory, and is called content.db. Open that location, and run Kodi in a window so you can see the directory open. Do the following:

  1. Open the CinemaVision add-on settings.
  2. Under Debugging, select Reset content database.
  3. Select OK when prompted.

You should see the content.db file disappear from the directory. If you don't, that file will need to be forcibly removed manually as it is indeed locked to a user and you don't have permission to manipulate it. You may have to close Kodi to remove the file. Once the file is gone, do a content update.

  1. Open the CinemaVision add-on settings.
  2. Select the Content menu.
  3. Select Update content.

Let me know how it goes!

I had to lay off using CinemaVision for over 6 months because of how bad of a reputation I have gotten on the forums. Anyway, I am posting a new reply because you told me "Let me know how it goes" and yet I didn't until now. I am also doing this because I wanted to watch a movie for the first time ever to celebrate its anniversary, and I wanted to do this the CinemaVision way.

At first, it didn't seem to work, but then I found out that I believe this problem is unique to the particular template I'm using. I created a brand new template that is shorter, but similar to the one I'm using, and when I tested it, the trailers DO play!

EDIT: I think this trailers not playing thing has to do with the scraper not identifying the right movie and just assumed the trailers didn't need to be played due to I guess lack of genre or rating identified. When I played the template with the queue full of my own video, the trailers didn't play, but with an empty queue, they did! So after that, I turned off all "Match Feature" settings in the trailers part, and the trailers played perfectly, even with the queue full!

Also, about what led to my bad reputation and my "dramatic" suicidal thinking... I am high-functioning autistic and I suffer from depression whenever somebody criticizes me and gives me a bad reputation. And whether it's on forums or not, I also have big anger management problems. Despite going to a therapist and being told that deep breathing and other coping skills would get me back to peace, whenever I feel angry about a certain something, I almost refuse to employ them properly. Even friends told me this is a sign of somebody who doesn't want to improve. I just feel like my life is over whenever I was told these things. And one time or another, I almost considered wanting to commit suicide, I was that depressed.

I hope this gets you a new view on what my situation was like.

Hey there! You don't have a bad reputation at all. Since your last post, we've had a lot happen. Apple broke the iTunes scraper, which we fixed recently. Make sure that you're using the latest version from the Kodi repository (1.0.13) and that you update content so that CinemaVision can fix what Apple broke. I'm assuming you're using the Apple iTunes scraper for trailers, so let me know if that's not the case. Using a streaming source for trailers also means we're relying on that ratings and genre data to be provided by the source, which can be unreliable. For example, with a lot of G rated movies, Apple doesnt ever update the rating from NR to G when the film gets a rating, which means the match rating setting won't work. After you've upgraded and updated content, if you're still seeing similar issues, post up a debug log for us to review. There might be a problem we missed that we need to address.

Very sorry to hear about the depression and such. I appreciate the explanation, and I sincerely hope the therapy helps you. Know that we're always 100% happy to help anyone who needs it, even if it's something we can't control. We're real people with real feelings too, and we just need to make sure that we all communicate in a way that doesn't foster conflict.
