Is Android supported?

Question

Hi- I tried to search for the answer to this but I've been searching for the search function of this forum to no avail.  Please let me know where the search functionality is :)

I know that an HTPC setup is supported but is it required ?  I have Kodi set up on an Android device and CinemaVision is working almost perfectly.  I can set up a VM to run an HTPC if I have to but before I do that I'd like to know if it's possible to use what I already have set up.

Thank you!

-Phil

Hey Phil! The search function is in the top right hand corner of the site, across from the site logo. You can search specific sections directly from the search bar dropdown, or do an Advanced Search to refine it even further. So if I'm understanding the question, you're asking if a PC hosting files is required, in your example an HTPC. Is that right?

If so, the answer is no, it's not required. There is a catch, though. Some Android versions/devices lock out the ability to write to and read from local storage within applications. That means that if you're running Kodi from an Nvidia Shield, for example, and you have your CinemaVision content directory on internal storage, Kodi may be restricted from seeing the content on the local storage by the Android OS. All that said, Kodi doesn't care where your content lives. It can be on a network share from a PC or server on your network, or from a network storage device like a NAS or external drive served to the network via your router. CinemaVision doesn't care either as long as the location of the files can be browsed from within Kodi, and has been added as a source in Kodi.

Let me know if that doesn't make sense, or if you want some help figuring out how to set any of it up. :)

Hi, and thanks for the search location.  I knew it had to be somewhere- I thought that it should be exactly where it is, except when I was looking at the top right, the floating menu bar seemed like it was the top of the pagexD

Thanks for the information on storage.  Something I read made me think that because of Android's wonderful save-me-from-myself security measures it had to be on an HTPC.  I keep my my CinemaVision files on a flash drive in my Android box because Kodi/CinemaVision can write to /Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi on it.

Thanks again,

-Phil

If you scroll down a page the menu will stay at the top of the page.  If you want to get to the search without scrolling to the top of the page click "Help" in the menu to open a dropdown menu.  Then click search to go to the search page.
